Designing your dream garden
The landscape design creative process begins with a consultation.
We come and meet you on site and discuss all those ideas that have been simmering away in the back of your mind. We talk about functionality, your needs and priorities: space for the kids to run around, screening to provide privacy from neighbours, an entertaining area that makes the most of a gorgeous view, or a front entry that gives a sense of arrival.
Before we meet it’s a good idea to sit down and think through what sort of garden will suit you best. What style do you prefer? Do you like a contemporary look or do you prefer a native garden? A minimalist contemporary style? A clipped formal garden? An organic vegetable garden? Think about who will be maintaining the garden and how much time you have to devote to this? Maybe your priority is shade to help cool things down in summer. Or perhaps the area around the pool needs softening with some stunning tropical plants that will transform the area into your own private resort! The possibilities are endless.
We look at all the different elements of your site, including the aspect and location, wind direction, the position of the sun and light levels at different times of the year, topography of the site, the condition of the soil, what the views are from your home and how we can make the most of them - or alternatively hide them if necessary.
This then forms the basis of a site analysis, which we will use in developing a concept plan for your garden - more about the concept plan in a future post. A brief that sets out the scope of the project together with any identified issues, likes and dislikes is then produced and shared with clients for their input. Once we are agreed, we then move on to the next stage: developing the initial concept plan.
Do you have an idea for a garden makeover that has been bubbling away?
